Founder of Journey of a Black Girl, Curator, Visual Artist, Artist Advocate
Courtney Brooks is an Atlanta based independent curator, multifaceted visual artist, and founder of Journey of a Black Girl. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Brooks carries a decade of experience, giving creative direction for interactive art events and curating over 20 solo and group exhibitions throughout the Atlanta area. She is an avid supporter for all creatives, and is proud to be a visual artist first. Her studio practices include experimental works with various mediums like, acrylic, oils paints, fiber art, metal sculptures and photography. Her goal as a curator is to help maximize artists’ potential and expand visibility in their careers.
In 2019 she exceeded expectations as the lead curator and gallery director for ArtsXchange , Jack Sinclair Gallery located in East Point. Courtney is the inaugural l Curator- In-Residence for Art on the Atlanta BeltLine. In 2021 she partnered with New Cities Properties to curate public art works for 8 muralists for the Reflection of Change project located on the EastSide trail of the Atlanta BeltLine. In addition, she has also represented NBAF ( National Black Art Festival ) as a 2022 public programs art coordinator, curating over 40 artists and creatives over a course of 5 events. Landing venues like Stankonia Recording Studio for their Rhymes and Rhythm poetry and dance experience, partnerships with Articulate ATL, and the curation of a film festival for ELEVATE ATL. While balancing art practices for herself and advocating for other creatives , she is currently working with Rangewater properties as 2022-2023 Artist- in -Residence at their Maverick Apartments in Peoplestown, Atlanta. Courtney’s eye catching skills, collaborations and innovative ideas helps connect communities to the arts locally and nationally.
