James Bing is a multitalented, multifaceted individual who has twenty years of corporate experience in engineering and product management, as well as over thirteen years of experience in the creative and entertainment field. He has worked in various industries including telecommunications, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, cable, internet, and music entertainment.
His corporate experience began with Nextel Communications as a RF and compliance engineer. He would move on to work in the advanced metering infrastructure industry where he worked in the RF engineering field for over ten years, traveling globally to manage, maintain and troubleshoot advanced metering infrastructure networks for various national and international utilities. He’s spent the last five years in product management for Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Broadband Internet companies, managing product portfolios worth up to $60M in annual revenue.
In the creative and entertainment business, James began breaking into the independent soul music scene by writing music reviews on independent soul albums in 2009 for online publications, including his own site, SoulArtistryMedia.com. He became known in the independent music community as a credible writer and tastemaker. The previous year, he began working with Eric Roberson on his team and helping him secure his first Grammy nomination for A Tale of Two at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. He would also help Eric secure his 2nd Grammy nomination the following year for his song Still.
In 2011 he moved from being a writer to interviewing, with his first interview being with N’Dambi and Bilal. He’s conducted over 30 interviews with artists including Dwele, Leela James, Rapsody, Eric Roberson, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Moonchild, Sy Smith, Mumu Fresh, and more. He is also a host, emcee, speaker, presenter and continues to work with artists in all facets to help them reach their ultimate goals. He started SoulCoolJay LLC in 2023 which focuses on providing entertainment services for events, conferences, artists, etc.
